Smog has formed over Kyiv

Following overnight attacks by the aggressor state Russia on August 28, fires broke out in the capital, leading to smog accumulation above the city. This information was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.
As of the morning, air pollution levels in Kyiv remain moderate.
However, KCSA officials noted that the noticeable smell of burning might persist even when monitoring stations report low concentrations of key pollutants (particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, etc.).
After explosions, smoke odors are often detected near impact zones or areas where winds carry residual particles. Wind patterns may also lift hazardous substances into the air or disperse them, causing monitoring equipment to occasionally register lower pollution levels than those perceived by residents.
If smoke is detected nearby, authorities advise Kyiv residents to:
- keep windows closed;
- minimize outdoor exposure when possible;
- stay hydrated.
