Costa Seeks Agreement with Orbán
As Ukrainian journalists learned, on September 10, the European Council president will attempt to persuade the pro-Russian politician to cease blocking the opening of negotiation clusters for Ukraine.
Regarding enlargement, we regret that Hungary continues to obstruct cluster access for Ukraine. This issue extends beyond enlargement to broader Ukrainian matters—Hungary remains apart from the other 26 member states. This is a recurring topic in discussions between President Costa and Prime Minister Orbán, stated an insider to media.
According to an anonymous source, the Orbán-Costa meeting is “scheduled as part of the European Council president’s tour of EU capitals on Wednesday, September 10.”
They also noted that advancing the EU enlargement process remains a priority for President Costa.
He will revisit this matter in talks with Prime Minister Orbán… I cannot foresee the outcome of this meeting, they emphasized.
