Read in English

German leader Friedrich Merz has openly criticized the illegitimate Kremlin head Vladimir Putin, accusing him of employing “delaying tactics” by refusing to engage in talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Key points:

  • Merz and Trump expressed hopes that a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy would occur within two weeks.
  • Media sources revealed further steps planned by the U.S. President.

Merz Publicly Condemns Putin

As stated by the German Chancellor, the Russian dictator continues to utilize a “stalling strategy” regarding diplomatic resolution efforts for Russia’s war against Ukraine:

Putin insists on setting preconditions for negotiations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, terms deemed entirely unacceptable by Ukraine and its Western allies.

The German leader highlighted that Donald Trump and Putin reached an agreement last week to facilitate a meeting between the Russian dictator and Zelenskyy.

Merz noted their shared expectation that this discussion would take place within a fortnight.

Recently, the U.S. President suggested that Putin’s personal aversion to Zelenskyy is hindering progress toward a bilateral summit.

Journalists have learned that Trump intends to let Kyiv and Moscow arrange their leaders’ meeting independently, temporarily stepping back from mediation efforts to end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
