Anonymous sources indicate that the outlined agreements were framed as incentives to push the Kremlin toward ending the conflict, with Washington offering a reduction in economic sanctions against Russia in exchange.
A central focus was facilitating U.S. energy giant Exxon Mobil’s return to the Russian oil and gas venture “Sakhalin-1.”
Multiple insiders informed journalists that talks also included potential sales of American industrial equipment to Russia for its liquefied natural gas (LNG) production initiatives.
Notably, this refers primarily to the “Arctic LNG-2” project, currently under Western sanctions.
The U.S. additionally explored the possibility of purchasing nuclear-powered icebreakers from Russia.
These negotiations took place during a visit by American envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow earlier this month, where he met with Putin and the Kremlin’s investment representative, Kirill Dmitriev.
