Carney Considers Deploying Canadian Troops to Ukraine

The Canadian leader articulated this position during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.

Mark Carney stressed that the cornerstone of all security assurances lies in Ukraine’s strengthened defense capabilities.

He underscored the significance of training programs in advancing these objectives.

Additionally, he highlighted Canada’s longstanding involvement in training Ukrainian military personnel since the annexation of Crimea.

It is crucial to recognize that negotiations continue regarding diverse forms of security commitments.

“We are coordinating with our allies and the ‘Coalition of the Determined’ alongside Ukraine to finalize terms for these assurances across land, air, and maritime domains. Military participation remains a viable option,” he stated.

Notably, the Canadian leader also announced a $500 million funding package for military equipment and ammunition sourced from the United States, aligned with NATO’s new initiative titled the “Ukraine Priority Requirements List” (PURL).
